Spanish Guardia Civil
About
Guardia Civil is one of Spain’s main public security institutions and one of the oldest law enforcement bodies in Europe, with more than 180 years of history. It plays a key role in protecting citizens, guaranteeing public safety, and enforcing the law across the national territory, with a strong presence in rural areas and specialized operational fields.
Its responsibilities cover a wide range of areas, including road safety, border and maritime security, environmental protection, criminal investigation, cybercrime, and the fight against organized crime and terrorism. At the same time, the Guardia Civil is deeply committed to community service and social responsibility, working closely with local communities and other public institutions.
In recent years, the Guardia Civil has strengthened its focus on inclusion, accessibility, and human rights, developing innovative tools and initiatives to improve communication with people with disabilities and vulnerable groups. Through cooperation with national and international partners, civil society organizations, and institutions such as foundations and public bodies, it promotes more accessible, effective, and people-centred public services.
By combining tradition, professionalism, innovation, and social commitment, the Guardia Civil contributes to a safer, more inclusive, and resilient society, aligned with international standards on human rights and social inclusion.
