About

Penta Medical Recycling is a nonprofit organization that collects surplus and gently used prosthetic limbs and components from across the United States and redistributes them to clinics in low- and middle-income countries where access to prosthetic care is extremely limited.

In the U.S., hundreds of thousands of high-quality prosthetic components are discarded each year due to regulatory restrictions that prohibit reuse, even though these devices remain functional. Penta works with a national network of clinics, manufacturers, and distributors to recover these items, including knees, pylons, feet, and liners, before they are sent to landfill or incineration.

Once collected, components are sorted, inventoried, and shipped to vetted international partners that provide prosthetic care. These partners include nonprofit hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and medical mission teams. By supplying the materials needed for fittings, Penta enables local providers to serve more patients at lower cost and reduce delays caused by equipment shortages.
