About

LAT Bionics is a Peruvian tech spin-off dedicated to designing and manufacturing personalized, AI-enhanced, 3D-printed upper-limb prostheses that make high-quality assistive technology accessible and affordable across Latin America. Originating from research at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP), the company integrates advanced biomechanics, artificial intelligence, and digital manufacturing to create prosthetic solutions tailored to each user’s anatomy, lifestyle, and functional needs.

Since 2021, LAT Bionics has served more than one hundred users and currently maintains a waiting list of over three hundred people, demonstrating the magnitude of the unmet regional demand for accessible prosthetic devices. Through parametric design, rapid fabrication workflows, and the use of local materials, the company reduces the cost of prosthetic devices by up to ninety percent compared to imported alternatives and shortens delivery times from several months to just a few days. These improvements enable faster rehabilitation, greater comfort, and increased independence for individuals with upper-limb disabilities.

LAT Bionics also sustains a strong commitment to research and development. In collaboration with the Biomechanics and Applied Robotics Research Group (GIRAB PUCP), the team advances innovations in AI-based myoelectric control, digital fabrication methods, haptic feedback systems, and other emerging technologies. This work has resulted in scientific publications, patents, and scalable design frameworks that contribute to strengthening the assistive technology ecosystem throughout the region.

Motivated by a mission centered on inclusion, dignity, and technological sovereignty, LAT Bionics strives to ensure that every person with an upper-limb disability—regardless of income or location—can access a functional, comfortable, and empowering prosthetic solution. Through community-centered design, partnerships with healthcare and academic institutions, and a service model designed for scalability, the organization is helping shape a future in which high-quality assistive technology becomes a universal right across Latin America.
